2027 is closer than your migration plan thinks

18 September 2026 / 7 min read

SAP ECC mainstream maintenance has a date on it. Most programmes slip not in the conversion weekend, but in the year before anyone is willing to name a path. If go-live needs to land before the deadline, the decision that matters is this year's: brownfield, greenfield or selective data transition, and which custom code is allowed to come along.

Work backwards from a close, not from a kickoff

A credible date is a close calendar plus a rehearsed cutover, not a project plan that starts at 'mobilise'. Count the dress rehearsals, the finance data conversion, the interfaces the plants use on Monday, and the training for the processes that actually change. What is left is the quarter in which the path has to be chosen.

  • List simplification items and business-partner impacts before you debate greenfield versus brownfield.
  • Put every custom object in one of three piles: retire, convert, or rebuild outside the core.
  • Name the first period-end close on S/4HANA as a deliverable, with an owner.
  • If a RISE contract is in the conversation, decide what it changes operationally, not only commercially.

What to settle this quarter

You do not need a full blueprint to make the decision. You need a fixed-scope assessment that ends with options, a cost range and the risks that would move the date. Srizon runs that assessment so the output is yours whether or not we deliver the programme.
